With the joint efforts of the international community and governments, a number of agreements have been issued to limit global greenhouse gas emissions. For example, the American Clean Energy and Security Act and the American Power Act in the United States, the European Union's biomass Energy action plan and Directive for Renewable Energy Sources, etc. All these international agreement or national laws and regulations to be the world's renewable clean energy development driving force, greatly stimulated the demand for renewable energy, therefore biomass pellet fuel industry  into people's horizons again, and gets the rapid development in the 21st century, output rising at an annual rate of 18% ~ 25%. In 2000, the world production of biomass pellet fuel was only 1.65 million t, but by 2010 it had increased to 15.7 million t, an increase of 9.5 times. It can also be seen that the development of the world's biomass pellet fuel industry is not balanced globally, and the main production areas are currently concentrated in the European Union and north American countries. In 2010, for example, the output of biomass pellet fuel in the EU and North America was 928.6 million t and 4.32 million t respectively, accounting for 59.3% and 27.6% of the world's total production. Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia, Africa and Australia accounted for only 9.2 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively.

However, the development of biomass pellet fuel industry is not balanced among countries. Among them, the largest biomass pellet fuel production countries are the United States, Canada, Germany and Sweden, and the largest consumption of countries are Sweden, Denmark, the United States, the Netherlands and Italy. Europe is the region with the largest consumption of biomass pellet fuel in the world. For example, in 2010, the consumption of biomass pellet fuel in Europe reached 11.411 million t, an increase of 25.5% compared with 9.089 million t in 2009, accounting for 85% of the total consumption of the world. The difference between biomass pellet fuel consumption and production in Europe is mainly made up by imports, so Europe has become the largest import market of biomass pellet fuel in the world. North America, which produces far more than it consumes, is the largest export market. In 2010, the largest imports of biomass pellet fuel were from Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and Sweden, while the largest exports were from Canada, Russia, Germany, Poland and the United States. In 2010, the export volume of biomass pellet fuel in Canada reached 1.655 million t, accounting for 95% of its total production volume, making it the largest export volume of biomass pellet fuel in the world. At present, heating and power generation is the main two USES of biomass pellet fuel, in Austria, France, Germany and Italy biomass pellet fuel is mainly used for heating, and in Denmark, Finland, Sweden in addition to heating is also used for power generation.

Although the world biomass pellet fuel industry has developed rapidly in the past decade, it is still a new industry, such as in Russia, Indonesia, such countries, forest share is very high, but the pellet machine is not widespread, and the government welcomes people with insight from all sides to invest in the establishment of factories.
